From nutrition, to agriculture, to practical life skills and fine motor skills, meal time provides an endless amount of teachable moments for children of all ages.

Family style dining is crucial for children as it allows for language development between child and caregiver, promotes food and nutrition empowerment for children as they decide what and how much of what goes on their plate, and builds fine motor skills as children practice scooping and grabbing food with various utensils.

To implement this Montessori practical life skill in your own home:
- Print out our placemat printable. We recommend printing on cardstock and laminating placements for an increase in durability and for easy clean up of the placemat following meal time.
- Allow your child to practice setting the table with you until they are able to set the table independently!
